Observatory Substation Fire | Repairs to restore power underway

JOHANNESBURG - City Power says technicians have made tremendous progress with repairs at the Observatory Substation, which was extensively damaged by a blaze in the early hours of Saturday.

The fire left Houghton estate and several suburbs east of Johannesburg without power.

While the cause of the fire is being investigated, officials say full restoration could take 5 to 7, as equipment inside the control room was damaged. Johannesburg Water's Yeoville reservoir, also affected by the fire, has been restored.
