WATCH | SANDF denies existence of torture squads

 

JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Defence Force has denied the existence of 'torture squads' within its ranks on Thursday.

Rights group Open Secrets published a four-part expose uncovering incidents of torture, and possibly assassinations, allegedly carried out by members of the SANDF.

The group said the evidence they have collected implicates at least four units of the army.

It’s alleged that officials were instructed to recover stolen firearms including 18 rifles, taken from a base just outside Pretoria.

Open Secrets spoke to an alleged torture victim who detailed the ordeal,
and mentioned the name of a general who ordered his assault.
