The arrests follow a public safety engagement in Soweto on Wednesday, where authorities met with stakeholders in the liquor industry to address growing safety concerns.
Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana Fred Kekana spoke with eNCA about this saying, "amongst them there are two persons who are possible suspects."
"This morning, the Sibanye-Stillwater mine security engaged in an operation, the police joined them,... and we managed to intercept a specific house where one of those possible suspects, out of two, was found in possession of an AK47 rifle."
"And in the house, we managed to arrest other nine suspects and we found them in possession of four pistols."
"The house belonged to a mine, and the mine employee was allocated the house: he was also arrested."
Police have also confiscated illegal firearms linked to the attack.
SAPS reportedly verified the identity of the suspects and found some were nationals from Lesotho and Mozambique. The owner of the house was a South African.
The charges to be faced by the suspects include harboring undocumented people, and defeating the ends of justice.
