2 SANDF soldiers killed, 3 wounded in DRC mortar attack

JOHANNESBURG - Two South African soldiers deployed to the DRC a few days ago have been killed in a mortar attack.

Three others were wounded.

South Africa has sent almost 3,000 soldiers to the conflict-ridden eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The contingent is part of a SADC mission deployed to support the DRC government in attaining peace and stability.

The SANDF says details of the attack are still sketchy, but an investigation is underway.

Thousands of people have fled the east of DRC as M23 rebels take key towns.
