2024 elections | 52 organisations given observer status

JOHANNESBURG - A total of 52 organisations from around the world will be observing the 29 May polls.

The IEC says it welcomes observer missions and will give them all the support they need.

Monitors have to register with the IEC to ensure they are acting in the best interest of democracy.

The DA wrote to Western countries to not only observe the vote, but also to run parallel counting processes.

This was done without following proper channels and is in any case illegal.

The commission's Janet Love said it's important to embrace the elections in many different ways.

"The commission really does welcome observers," she said.
