2024 elections | Parties urged to accept defeat after polls

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC must commit that it’ll relinquish power if voted out.

That’s the view of IFP MP Mkhuleko Hlengwa, who adds other parties must also accept defeat.

He was one of the panelists speaking at a summit discussing potential coalitions hosted by civil society organisation, Defend Our Democracy.

Ahead of the May 29 elections, five of the six major polls predict there’ll be no outright winner.

With over 14.5 million eligible voters not registered to vote, there are concerns that not much is being done to make South Africa a fully participatory democracy.
