Additional 2,600 officers to be deployed to WC during festive season

CAPE TOWN - Police Minister Bheki Cele has called on Police to be tough on criminals who plan to terrorize communities.

Cele was with police heavyweights launching the national Safer Festive Season Campaign in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

Crime-ridden communities across the country will see a heightened police presence during the festive season.

To rein in escalating crime, there will be targeted police deployments to focus on gender-based violence, cash in transit heists, extortion and our compromised borders.

Following the spate of violence in the western Cape Cele says 2,600 additional police officers will be deployed to the province by the end of this year.
