Babita Deokaran murder trial postponed

JOHANNESBURG - The case against six men accused in the murder of whistle-blower Babita Deokaran was postponed once again in the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday.

The last time the matter was in court it was remanded for negotiations between the state and defence.

This happened again on Tuesday, with the state saying that there are still a few outstanding issues.

Deokaran was shot and killed outside her home in Mondeor, south Johannesburg, in 2021.

At the time of the murder, she was a high-ranking official who flagged hundreds of millions of rands' worth of suspicious payments from Tembisa Hospital.

The six men arrested for her killing are thought to just be the hit-men.

They face charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of unlicenced firearms.

They will remain in custody until their next court appearance next week.
