CAPE TOWN - A three-month-old who has been shot and killed in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town, was allegedly used as a human shield.
This is according to Ward councillor Angus McKenzie, who has painted a grim picture of the incident that happened on Friday morning.
He claims the child was in the arms of a man who was being targeted by rival gang members when gunmen opened fire.
The baby was hit and later died in the hospital.
“He was in a critical state. They managed to resuscitate the child, bringing a lot of hope unfortunately, as the child was being prepared to be transported to a Red Cross children's hospital, He crashed on the table. Attempts to resuscitate him were fruitless, and unfortunately, the child died,” he detailed.
McKenzie says investigations so far show both the victim and the perpetrator are believed to be linked to rival gangs in the area
Police are now searching for the suspects involved in the fatal shooting.
