Calls for justice in Steinhoff scandal

CAPE TOWN - There are growing calls for those involved in the Steinhoff fraud and money-laundering disaster - believed to be the biggest of its kind in South Africa - to be brought to book.

The Hawks and National Prosecuting Authority secured arrest warrants against Markus Jooste and Stephanus Grobler on 20 March.

A day later, former Steinhoff CEO Jooste shot himself and died soon after in hospital.

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority fined Jooste R475-million for publishing deceptive statements about the company’s international financial position between 2014 and 2017.
