Cape Town mayor says no to minister's call for taxis' release

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town mayor has hit out at the Transport Minister.

Geordin Hill-Lewis says that Sindisiwe Chikunga does not understand the law that led to the impounding of the those taxi.

Chikunga has called for the immediate release of impounded taxis. She says the Metro is using the wrong legislation. She has condemned the City's actions against the taxis calling the impounding unlawful.

Taxi association Santaco has pulled its vehicles from roads, leading to mayhem and violence. Talks between the City and the taxi industry have proved fruitless, and commuters and businesses are paying the price.
