JOHANNESBURG - Security forces have foiled a hijacking attempt involving a vehicle hired for the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
The incident unfolded last night when a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm tried to steal a car transporting members of the SAPS National Intervention Unit (NATJOINTS).
Officers fired a shot, and wounded the suspect.

Authorities later confirmed that the weapon was an imitation firearm.
The man was taken to hospital under police guard and will appear in court on attempted hijacking charges once he is fit.
NATJOINTS says the incident highlights the strict security measures in place for the summit and warns that any attempts to test these measures will be dealt with decisively.
