JOHANNESBURG - Governance is under intense scrutiny after Tourism Minister, Patricia de Lille, dissolved the entire SA Tourism Board.
The decision follows claims of an unlawful special meeting and procedural breaches, that the board denies took place.
The Chartered Governance Institute of Southern Africa warns that sidelining the board, and its governance officers undermines accountability.
In a statement on Thursday the CEO of CGISA Stephen Sadie said, "The situation raises several concerns regarding a failure of governance. A minister should not undermine the role of the board – this step is guided by specific governance processes and best practice – in this case such a decision needed to be gazetted before it could come into effect."
