Convicted Chinese nationals to be sentenced for human trafficking

JOHANNESBURG - The South Gauteng High Court will sentence seven Chinese nationals convicted of human trafficking and child labour.

They were found guilty on 160 counts, including human trafficking, earlier this year.

They were arrested in 2019 following an operation at their business in Village Deep, south of Johannesburg.

They were found to be holding multiple illegal immigrants, including children, in the locked premises of their business.

The state wants a minimum prescribed sentence in prison, but the defence has argued for less.
