Convicted Chinese nationals sentenced to 20 years for human trafficking

JOHANNESBURG - The South Gauteng High Court has sentenced seven Chinese nationals to 20 years in prison for human trafficking. 

The group appeared in court today. They were found guilty of human trafficking, violating labour laws, and contravening the Immigration Act.

They also violated multiple labour laws, including failure to register their business,
keep financial records, or maintain safe working conditions.

The group was arrested in 2019 following an operation at their business in Village Deep, south of Johannesburg where they were found to be holding multiple illegal immigrants, including children, in the locked premises of their business.
