COSATU President Zingiswa lauds Madlanga Commission

POLOKWANE - COSATU President Zingiswa Losi has called the Madlanga Commission the most effective commission in the country’s history.

She made the remarks at the May Day Rally in Polokwane, Limpopo.

"Cosatu is calling for parliament to overhaul our criminal justice, to deal with this scourge.  We must appreciate the progress that has been made to remove the cancer of corruption across the state, in particular with SARS.

"But more needs to be done. Our police require vehicles, our NPA requires skilled prosecutors, and the courts of our country require magistrates. This is a war that we dare not lose... Politicians, employers, and tenderpreneurs who steal from the poor must go to prison. We welcome what we see in the Madlanga Commission, perhaps it is the most effective we have ever seen in our country," Losi said.

She said COSATU also wants unemployment to be declared a national emergency.

The rate stands at 31.4%, with most young people unable to find work, painting a grim picture of the jobs crisis.

"When we are battling this single greatest threat that is facing the nation, comrades, we must therefore condemn those employers, both in the private and in the public sectors, who see nothing wrong with returning workers in this economy of ours. Our unemployment comrades must, our unemployment must be treated as a national emergency. Like we did, Deputy President, when we were dealing with COVID-19.
