JOHANNESBURG - The DA is offering a R50,000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killing of ward candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe.
She was killed in Dunoon on Saturday on her way home from a voting registration station.
Her murder and the killing of Gqeberha councillor Sixelo Mleve have heightened concerns about political violence ahead of the municipal elections.
The DA's JP Smith said they did not want to speculate about the motive.
"It's probably not wise to speculate on this, but the city's investigative resources are working closely with the South African Police since last night. They worked late into the night, speaking to witnesses and we are hoping that something will come of this quickly.
"As such, we have indicated to the police that the DA has offered a R50,000 reward for information if that should assist in getting informants to come forward," Smith said.
