Date to honour Munsieville Four to be announced

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng province had initially planned to honour four freedom fighters from Munsieville in Krugersdorp, as part of Sunday's Heritage Day celebrations.

But that event is expected to be held at a date yet to be confirmed.

Petrus Ntshole, Thomas Molatlhegi, Richard Motsoahae and Josiah Mocumi, were hanged in 1964 by the apartheid government.

They were members of the PAC's armed wing, POQO.

The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture's Nomazwe Ntlokwana said, "The department had initially undertaken to have a wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance and honour of the  Munsieville Four but in agreement with families and our MEC have agreed that we need a special day to really recognise the contributions and the struggles of the people of  Munsieville and in honour of the four as well."

"We will announce the date, we want that day to be memorable for the families and also for the people of Munsieville.”
