Delivery services on high alert ahead of planned protests

JOHANNESBURG - There are reports of some companies shutting down despite government saying Tuesday is a normal business day.

Checkers Sixty60 also says some of its services may be unavailable.

The retailer has warned that the delivery service may be unavailable in some areas due to potential disruptions linked to planned protests.

The demonstrations, organised by anti-illegal-migration groups, have raised safety concerns particularly for delivery drivers, many of whom are believed to be foreign nationals.

The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa says services are especially vulnerable, with reports of drivers being stopped and robbed.

Shoppers are being urged to place essential orders before tomorrow, to avoid possible disruptions.
