JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng province and parts of Johannesburg have water outages going back weeks, and even months for some.
Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina says the shortage can't be blamed on the maintenance at the Lesotho Highlands Water tunnel.

It links the Katse Dam with Muela Power Station and has been offline for six months.
The Minister says municipalities need to repair deteriorating infrastructure as that is the reason behind the shortage of water in different places around the country.
Tshwane residents have been without water for six days without water because of a burst pipe.
The City says it's uncertain when technicians will conclude the repairs.
In the meantime, water tankers have been providing supply to those impacted. But residents are furious, blaming authorities for their lack of effective poor communication.
