Easter egg prices on the rise

JOHANNESBURG - If you're wondering why the price of Easter eggs have gone up so drastically, blame it on climate change and its impact on cacao crops, worldwide.

Popular brands Lindt and Ferrero Rocher have had to hike their prices sharply in the last year. 

Rising temperatures and humidity have hit cocoa producers in West Africa hard. 

More than 70 percent of global supply originates from that part of the world. 

To worsen matters, sugar prices are also on the rise.

Confectionery company Cadbury acknowledged price increases of up to 15 percent in the last 12 months.
