KUGOMPO CITY - Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) has welcomed the findings of the Enyobeni Tavern inquest.
On Friday, the East London Regional Court sitting in Mdantsane gave families answers to their long-awaited questions.
Magistrate Mvuselelo Malindi found both the manager and owner grossly negligent after 21 young people were killed on the night of 26 June 2022, during a celebration for the end of their exams.
He further ruled that they failed to comply with the Liquor Act. However, Siyakhangela Ndevu, the owner, maintains his innocence.

The ECLB spokesperson, Mgwebi Msiya, said it will undertake what it has described as a thorough assessment of court findings, including legal and operational implications.
This, according to Msiya, is to ensure that any decision taken by the board is informed, responsible and aligned with the applicable legal framework.
"The ECLB remains firmly committed to the principles of accountability, transparency and good governance. The Board will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities and will act in accordance with the Constitution and the law of the Republic of South Africa," Msiya said.
Msiya said it will communicate its action once the assessment is complete
