EC unemployment rate to be addressed: Mabuyane

EAST LONDON - Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane says his government is working hard to address the province's high unemployment rate.

According to the latest statistics, the Eastern Cape recorded the highest decline in jobs, with nearly 42-percent of its population unemployed.

However, Mabuyane says there are plans in place to address this.

He was delivering his state of the province address on Thursday.

He says that nearly 100 schools have been built in the Eastern Cape since 2019.

Mabuyane says his government is committed to addressing challenges facing the education sector in the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, his speech was interrupted by the EFF. The red berets were ejected from the address after clashing with security personnel at the event.

Members stormed into the precinct in efforts to raise issues faced by tertiary students.

Students say they have been living in the hall, without mattresses or other furniture after failing to secure accommodation.

They also claim that NSFAS has not paid for registration.
