Ekurhuleni pays over R12million to suspended officials – Mayor Xhakaza

JOHANNESBURG – Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has revealed that the City pays R12.7million to 17 suspended officials annually.

“There is fruitless expenditure. There are cases that are unending. I can tell you now, there has been a debate about how much it costs the council to pay officials who are sitting at home.

“The latest report that I have (is that) we’ve got about 17 officials who are on suspension. This includes the four senior officials whom you would know. All in all, it's about R12.7 million annually that we pay,” he said.
