Eskom escalates blackouts to Stage 5

JOHANNESBURG - Rolling blackouts have been escalated from Stage 4 to 5, effective from 4pm this afternoon.

Power utility, Eskom attributes this to an increase in planned maintenance and multiple generation unit failures.

Stage 5 will remain in place until 5am on Monday, at which stage, rolling blackouts will revert to stage 4.

The cycle will be repeated until the power utility regains some degree of stability.
