JOHANNESBURG - Floyd Shivambu-led party, Afrika Mayibuye Movement is facing major turmoil, before it even cements its spot on the South African political landscape.
The party has been hit by a string of high profile resignations and its fundraising dinner, expected to raise millions, has now been postponed, adding to the crisis.
A reconfiguration of its top leadership structure has been completed in an attempt to stabilise matters.
Afrika Mayibuye Movement spokesperson Sydney Baloyi attributed some of the departures to a possible decline in eagerness to be part of the political space.
"Unlike any other organization in South Africa, We started with a consultation process that visited all the nine provinces.
'It's possible that after that entire exhaustive roadshow, some of the people who came with all the enthusiasm that made us believe they could be trusted leaders all the way, may just have discovered that they do not have enough gasoline in their political tanks to go all the way," he explained
While Baloyi says this may be 'regrettable', the party respects the decisions by those who have handed over the resignation.
He says they move forward with the ones who remain fully committed to taking Afrika Mayibuye Movement to its 'intended destination'.
