According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner, Fred Kekana the suspects were allegedly targeting a businessman who was set to deposit  money at a bank.

A multidisciplinary team comprising various law enforcement agencies was mobilised to intercept the suspects’ vehicle. But the situation quickly escalated.

"When they noted that police was trying to stop them then felt they can challenge law enforcement. They started shooting from their vehicle. Police had no choice bu to defend themselves because they wanted to stop them so they could surrender," Kekana said.

All four suspects were fatally wounded in the shootout.

Firearms have been recovered, and investigations are ongoing.
