JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Finance and Economic Development MEC, Lebogang Maile, says five Gauteng Liquor Board members have been arrested.
The province's liquor and gambling board has been previously accused of corruption and poor management.
Business owners have raised complaints of corruption and the time it takes for liquor licences to be approved causing unnecessary delays.
These delays severely affect numerous businesses across the province, some of whom are forced to trade illegally, while others have delayed their operations, causing job losses.

Maile says the dismissal of the officials has not completely eradicated corruption and unlawful conduct within the board. He says this is a sign that the fraudulent activities have been deeply embedded into the GLB.
The MEC will establish a committee of enquiry that will arrest and prevent institualization of the decay cognisant of it's wide ranging implications for good governance in the province.
