Gauteng police deployed to fight highway robberies

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni is assuring residents they can rest easy.

He says police have been deployed to highway hotspots.

It follows a highway robbery where robbers targeted drivers on the M1 North during morning traffic.

"In terms of the N3 near De Hoek weighbridge, we have CCTV cameras. But the challenge we have is people using the side roads," he said.

"I must indicate that four days back with this "blue light" robberies, we managed to crack that space."
