Gordhan, Eskom at odds over CEO appointment

JOHANNESBURG - Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan is refuting claims he is stalling the appointment of Eskom’s CEO.

The power utility is still without a CEO since the resignation of Andre de Ruyter, 9 months ago.

The Minister has been at loggerheads with the Eskom board over who should take over.

Eskom announced it had reviewed a 150 potential candidates and made a recommendation to the Minister.

In a statement, Gordhan says appointing a CEO requires strict adherence and should not be taken lightly.

He says the politicisation of the process is proof that cleaning up of the SOEs will always be met with some resistance.
