JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources said it is in constant communication with oil companies to ensure South Africa’s fuel supply remains stable.
At the same time, the department is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and their possible impact on global oil markets and fuel prices.
This comes after early projections pointed to what could be the biggest monthly increase on record
The expected spike is being driven by a sharp rise in global oil prices as tensions escalate in the Middle East.

Despite concerns, the department said there is currently no immediate risk of fuel shortages in South Africa.
Meanwhile, the department noted that the continued rise in international crude oil prices is expected to push fuel prices higher from April 2026
The department said the under-recovery on fuel prices has been fluctuating since the conflict began and officials will continue to monitor the situation.
