Govt's promises to fix schools broken

PRETORIA - Another school has been left in the lurch by government's promises.

Eersterust Secondary School is a facility in a growing state of decay over time, despite assurances of help.

While learning continues, it's left parents discouraged about the future of their children.

All this, in a neighbourhood and upbringing that already has them on the back foot.

Years of promises to help fix their school have yielded little results.

The school declined eNCA’s request to enter the premises on instruction from the provincial education department.

But, the fed-up SGB walked the team through the property to show the scale of the collapse.

At least eight classrooms are in such bad shape that they have been locked up and are no longer in use.

Three mobile classrooms have been set up in the interim.

The provincial education department says delays to the project are due to documentation that has had to be checked and rechecked by the Department of Infrastructure Development.

The department adds that they expect the project to be on site early in the new financial year, corresponding to April or May 2024.
