High Court strikes Malema’s R1m defamation case against Kunene off the roll

JOHANNESBURG - The High Court in Johannesburg has struck Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema’s R1-million defamation case against Patriotic Alliance deputy leader Kenny Kunene off the roll.

The case was due to proceed on Tuesday, with both legal teams set to argue over Kunene’s comments during a podcast appearance.

But the case was struck from the roll after Malema’s lawyers failed to upload their heads of argument to the court’s CaseLines system on time.

The EFF leader is suing Kunene over what he describes as defamatory statements linking him to criminal cartels, allegations he strongly denies.

His legal team said the matter would be re-enrolled once the procedural issues are resolved.
