JOHANNESBURG - Violence continues to grip Westbury.

Angry residents demand the promised deployment of the army as shootings escalate.

Last week's mass shooting left a woman and 19-year-old Reece Oliphant dead.

A 15-month-old baby remains in hospital.

Father, Mikhail Oliphant said this incident has ripped them into pieces leaving them with more questions than answers.

"You try and be strong because you've got other boys and you try to protect," he said.

The same sentiments were echoed by, Oliphants mother Roxanne Carrim who said everyday becomes harder.

"Looking at his pictures and videos, it brings back all the memories. You then sit and still cannot believe that it happened to our boy, and we have to live with it for the rest of our lives," she said.

The two parents now find themselves leaning towards the help of the community to try and piece together what happened. But even then, nobody will truly know what happened.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia visited the deceased family on Saturday.

He said deployment of SANDF members may take longer than expected.

“So many people are raising concerns about the risks associated with such deployment. Police are trained to do policing - soldiers are not trained to use proportionate force," he said at the time.
