'I'm unhappy' - Brown Mogotsi after his recusal application was dismissed

PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission has dismissed Brown Mogotsi’s application to have Chief Evidence Leader Matthew Chaskalson recuse himself.

Mogotsi had accused Chaskalson of bias against him, trying to portray him as dishonest and improperly pressuring him to implicate a prominent businessman, allegations Chaskalson denied.

The Commission said reasons for the dismissal will be provided next week or the week after.

Mogotsi is now expected to continue his testimony under questioning from Chaskalson.

However, he is unhappy with the proceedings of the Commission.

"Chair, when I came here before, I came voluntarily, and as it was also put in my affidavit, the information that I said will need to be corroborated and be converted into evidence that is required or needed," Mogotsi said.

"I have given that all. I was declared a liar. I kept on saying I had to do the affidavit so that we could process this. I was declared a liar.

"Now today, again, I have made an application for the recusal of the Chief Evidence Leader, which it was fair, it was done properly, it is within the discretion of the Commission to make, to arrive at a certain conclusion. By so saying, Chair, I want to say I'm very much unhappy with the proceedings."
