Impeachment Committee to be made up of 31 members- Parly

JOHANNESBURG – The Impeachment Committee, which will look into President Cyril Ramaphosa's 2020 Phala Phala Farm theft and the section 89 Independent Report, has been confirmed.

The move comes after Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza, engaged the National Assembly Chief Whips Forum.

In a statement on Wednesday, Parliament said the Committee would be composed of 31 members drawn from the 16 political parties represented in the National Assembly. 

Political parties have been requested to submit to the National Assembly Secretariat the names of their members who will serve on the Committee. 

They have until the close of business on Friday, 22 May 2026.

β€œIn determining the composition of the Impeachment Committee, the Speaker considered not only the Constitutional principle of proportional representation, but also the need for inclusivity and broad participation in this unprecedented parliamentary process,” Parliament said. 

ANC has secured the highest share of representation with nine seats, followed by the DA with five, the MK Party with three, and finally EFF with two. 

Parties that have one representative each include IFP, FF Plus, ActionSA, ACDP, UDM, RISE Mzansi, BOSA, ATM, Al Jama-ah, NCC, and UAT.
