PRETORIA - Government said industrial investment should deliver direct benefits to local communities.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile said new developments must create jobs, skills and business opportunities close to where people live.
He was speaking at the launch of the Chery Rosslyn Manufacturing Plant in Pretoria.
“Industrialization must not happen far away from the people it is meant to uplift.
“By locating new factories, supply opportunities, trading platforms and enterprise support so close to Mamelodi, Nelmapia, East-West and surrounding communities, we are making a clear statement that township residents must be direct participants in the economy of the future.
“This is how we turn industrial policy into household income, how we convert investment into skills and how we ensure that young people from our townships can see opportunity not as a distant promise but as something being built within reach of their homes."
