Innocence Project to free jailed GBV survivor
JOHANNESBURG - A mother of two has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for killing her abuser.
On the night of her arrest she was held against her will and raped.
But, for over a year before she was subject to beatings that even saw her miscarry.
The court took none of this into account when convicting and sentencing the woman.
Now, the Centre for Applied Legal Studies says this has to change.
It's helping the woman try to win back her freedom and to force courts to take history of abuse into account.
