Justice minister announces disciplinary measures for officials

PRETORIA - The Justice Ministry briefed the media on the postponement of the Madlanga Commission hearings on Tuesday.

Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and Deputy Minister Andries Nel led the briefing, where Kubayi announced that disciplinary measures would be instituted against two officials, including Justice and Constitutional Development Department Director-General Doc Mashabane, due to delays in the process.

The Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System announced that its hearings would be delayed on Tuesday.

In a statement, it was announced that the commission would set a new date for the start of proceedings.

The minister expressed her disappointment that the commission was delayed, and communicated with President Cyril Ramaphosa about the delay with a report.

Deputy Director-General Jabu Hlatshwayo, responsible for ICT at the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, was immediately suspended and instituted disciplinary proceedings against Mashabane.

"We must state that despite these challenges, the Madlanga commission has commenced with the preliminary work that includes interactions with their witnesses," the minister said.
