Through her lawyer, Hughes told the court she acted after an argument with the child's father.

She was arrested in January 2023 after the little girl's body was found in a bathtub.

The case has been postponed to 7 August to allow the state time to review new admissions.

Nada-Jane's mother Amy Johnston said Hughes should have confessed a long time ago.

She said, "I obviously do feel a bit of relief but there's definitely a whole rollercoaster of emotions that come with this."

"There was no doubt about it that it was her. So we are definitely relieved she admitted to the first count."

Johnston shared she hopes Hughes will admit to the two counts of rape.
