Kholeka Gcaleka's name put forward for Public Protector position

JOHANNESBURG - Kholeka Gcaleka has met all the requirements in order to be considered for the position of Public Protector.

Her name will now be sent to the National Assembly to be voted on with 60 percent needed to secure the position.

The DA, EFF and the FF plus have not supported her nomination.

Parliament’s ad hoc committee met today to deliberate on its preferred candidate.

Eight shortlisted candidates were interviewed over two days, last week.

Two others were further shortlisted Tuesday morning but didn't make the cut, Muvhango Lukhaimane and Tseliso Thipanyane.

Gcaleka took over an acting role following the suspension of Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The EFF wanted Gcaleka withdrawn from the interviews.

This after she cleared President Cyril Ramaphosa of any wrongdoing in the Phala Phala scandal.
