KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner makes explosive allegations at briefing

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, says there's political interference in police investigations.

He questioned the decision to disband the political killings task team during a briefing on policing in the province.

He said, "On the 26th of March this year a total of 125 case dockets that were under investigation were taken away from the task team as directed by a deputy national commissioner crime detection lieutenant-general Sibiya was acting on the instruction of the Minister of Police [Senzo Mchunu] to disband the team."

"Five of these dockets had instructions to arrest perpetrators but nothing has been done because Sibiya withdrew these dockets."

"Only a total of 124 dockets which are still in court of which 54 of them are politically related..."

Mkhwanazi, has also come out guns blazing towards his law enforcement colleagues.

He accuses politicians, the judiciary, and the NPA of aiding and abetting criminals.

Mkhwanazi says he is prepared to die in the fight against crime.
