KZN police probe the escape of alleged rapist targeting school girls

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal police have re-arrested a suspect who escaped custody on Monday, hours after his initial arrest.

The 28-year-old suspect was traced and arrested at a hostel in Umbilo on Thursday morning.

The man is accused of raping girls from Bizimali High School in Nkandla. He appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on a charge of escaping from lawful custody, before being taken back to Nkandla to face rape charges.

eNCA reporter Nkosikhona Malinga-Mnisi spoke to SAPS spokesperson in KZN, Robert Netshiunda. He said they are looking into how did the suspect escape police custody. 

Netshiunda says if there is any officer who had assisted the suspect they will be dealt with accordingly.
