Locals loot diesel after Durban fuel tanker crash

DURBAN - The M7 going towards Bluff in Durban is soaked with diesel after the collision of two trucks on Monday.

The two trucks, one of them a tanker, collided on the N2 north off-ramp.

Motorists and residents in the vicinity of the area, took advantage of the accident and were seen carrying empty containers and looting diesel pouring out of the tanker.

The tanker was transporting about 30,000 litres of diesel.

Frantic efforts from emergency services are underway to secure the area to contain further contamination.

Four people were injured in the accident, with two severely entrapped. Jaws of life were used to free trapped passengers from the wreckage.

It is expected the road will remain closed to traffic until mop up operations are completed.
