JOHANNESBURG - City Power's own contractors are enabling cable thieves, that's according to City Power's spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
Mangena says these contractors provide information about City Power’s network, and some are part of syndicates stripping electricity infrastructure.
"We have arrested 40 criminals and this talks to some of the security strategies. The bad thing about all of this is that during some of these arrests that we have actually started making, we find that our own contractors - most of our contractors are actually found to be part of this syndicates," says Mangena.
South Africa has been battling power cuts in recent years and on Friday, Eskom implemented stage 3 power cuts.
The power cuts will run until 5am on Monday.
