Matatiele - Police have launched a manhunt for eight detainees who escaped custody in the Eastern Cape.
The men managed to escape from the Afsondering Police Station cells in Maluti on Saturday.
Authorities are urging members of the public who may have information to contact the investigating team directly: Sergeant Matabane at 076 342 4033 or Constable Mantelefu at 073 109 7962.
The prisoners are:
1. Asiphe Yawu
2. Abraham Gobozi
3. Kwanele Mzala
4. Siphelele Mkhulisi
5. Thabo Nana
6. Siphelele Nondolo
7. Anele Ludidi
8. Sinethemba Mazendala
A separate case of aiding and abetting was also opened to investigate whether the escape was facilitated by others.
The police’s Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation.
“Members of the public are cautioned not to apprehend the escapees themselves as they are dangerous criminals. All information will be treated confidentially.”
