Marks Park may be up for sale

JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Property Company might be looking to sell Marks Park.

An item in Wednesday's council meeting proposed public participation for the future of the park.

While this is still in its early stages, there are talks of either continuing with a rental agreement or selling the property for future investment purposes.

Parts will remain for recreational purposes.

The park was founded in 1938 after the Geldenhuys family donated 13 hectares of land to be used for recreation.

It was initially in Patterson Park before moving to its current location in Emmarentia in 1951.

The area covered by the erf number that is up for possible public participation extends beyond Marks Park.

The JPC says engagements with all concerned have started.

They say they will be holding a meeting with the councillor on Monday to explain where things stand.

Due to Wednesday’s trio of no-confidence motions, the item was not tabled at the council meeting and remains up in the air.
