PRETORIA - The Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Tshwane this week became the home of Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee
Members of Parliament (MP) got to pose questions to alleged crime boss Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, as well as SAPS Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane.
Bags full of cash for bribes, alleged drug-trade links and claims of cellphone evidence dominated testimony at the Committee.
Matlala admitted he's no saint but has attempted to deflect the blame, saying that he’s being failed by the system.
He also admitted to handing out R500,000 in bribes to former Police Minister Bheki Cele.
He claims the cash handed out is just the price of doing business in a corrupt society.
But MPs grilled him on this and on a long list of previous cases
Proceedings later took a turn when a heated exchange between Matlala and MPs
More work lies ahead for the Committee with the time period for it extended until February next year.
