Mining equipment worth R60m seized at illegal coal mine in Mpumalanga

JOHANNESBURG - Mining equipment worth R60m has been seized at an illegal coal mine in Mpumalanga.

A mine manager was arrested and a manhunt is currently underway for the owner of the mine.

Excavators, bulldozers and dump trucks were among those seized by the illicit mining task team during an intelligence-driven take down operation.

R12m worth of coal was also seized.

Over the past 12 months, a total of 63 unregulated coal yards were shut down.
