Mkhwanazi claims Presidency interfered in SAPS deployment

PRETORIA - KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi  says Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) has contacts at high levels.

Continuing his testimony on day three of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Mkhwanazi said he had deployed a team to the Richards Bay area to deal with the high level of murders. But after a year, he recalled them as there was no progress.

Adding to this was that the deployment had become costly.

This resulted in Mkhwanazi getting a call from the national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, who said he had received a complaint from the Presidency, which wanted the team sent back.
